Stanimir’s four-point effort leads Timberwolves over Trail

Ryan Stanimir scored twice in the first period and ended the night with four points, leading the Williams Lake Timberwolves to a convincing 6-1 victory on home ice over the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Stanimir's pair in the opening 20 minutes came after Brendan Nadolny kicked off the scoring at the 9:13 mark of the period. The Timberwolves extended their lead to four goals midway through the second on a Jason Diehl effort, and scored twice in the third to salt away the victory.

Sam Mellor provided the Smoke Eaters' lone goal and broke Sean Donnelly's shutout bid on a third period power play. Nadolny, Kyle Leung and Danny Merth each picked up two-point evenings for Williams Lake.

Donnelly finished the night with 31 saves and the win, while Garrett Beckwith was tagged with the loss before being relieved by Kiefer Smiley in the second period.

The Timberwolves close out a month of October that includes eight home dates when they welcome the Quesnel Millionaires on Saturday evening. The Smoke Eaters, meanwhile, continue their three-game Northern road swing with a visit to Prince George.
