Penticton Vees graduate Joey Laleggia has earned the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Week Award after helping the University of Denver to a pair of wins over rival Colorado College.
The Burnaby native was 1st Star in the opener of the home-and-home series against CC as he set up one and scored another in a 6-5 Pioneers win. The next night, Laleggia notched another assist in a 6-2 triumph.
In addition to the goal and two assists, Laleggia fired six shots on net and finished +1 for the weekend.
Laleggia now has five goals and seven assists in 10 games on the season for the national #2-ranked Pioneers, who are 9-1 on the season.
Laleggia was named WCHA and College Hockey Association Rookie of the year last year before being selected by the Edmonton Oilers in June's NHL Entry Draft.
