Vees’ grad Hextall named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

North Dakota sophomore and Penticton Vees grad Brett Hextall has been recognized by the WCHA for his play in UND's sweep of sixth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth last weekend in Grand Forks, naming him the conference's Offensive Player of the Week. The award was a first for the second-year Sioux forward.

Hextall collected four points last weekend, including a career-best three-point outing in Friday's 5-2 win. In that game, Hextall scored power-play and shorthanded goals with the latter holding up as the eventual game-winner. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native also had an assist. In Saturday's 5-1 win, Hextall opened the scoring early in the first period with his 12th goal of the season.

Hextall is riding a career-best seven-game point streak, with eight goals and three assists during that stretch. He is tied for the team lead with Danny Kristo with seven power-play goals. In 23 games this season, Hextall has 12 goals and six assists.

Hextall and the Sioux are at Colorado College next weekend. Both teams are tied for fifth place and the league's final home playoff spot.
