In a meeting of the top-two clubs in the BCHL, it was Demico Hannoun's two third-period goals that were the difference in a Penticton Vees 4-2 win over the visiting Nanaimo Clippers.
After Jack Ramsey opened the scoring in the first, it was Connor Chartier making it 2-0 on a penalty shot just under five minutes into the second. Yanni Kaldis got the Clips on the board in the middle frame.
Hannoun's goals came 3:13 apart in the third to give the Vees the insurance they'd need. Nic Carrier replied for Nanaimo but that was as close as they got. Hunter Miska made 28 saves for the win.
Jake Lucchini, Harlan Orr and Craig Martin scored twice each and it was Dallas Calvin with the OT winner for the Trail Smoke Eaters in an 8-7 win over the host West Kelowna Warriors. Jason Cotton and Tyler Kunz put the Warriors up in the first but Martin got his pair in reply in the second plus the first each from Orr and Lucchini. There were seven goals in a wild third period with Jason Cotton's second forcing OT where Calvin won it.
Matthew Zentner made all 27 saves for his first BCHL shutout while Julien Lepage, Jesse Neher and Darien Craighead supplied the goals in a 3-0 Cowichan Valley Capitals win over the Prince George Spruce Kings. Lepage's was the winner in the first, Neher added on in the second and Craighead had a late empty-net goal.
Brendan Lamont's second of the night was the game-winner for the Coquitlam Express in a 5-3 road win over the Langley Rivermen. Gage Torrel had a pair for the Rivermen, his second putting them ahead 3-2 in the second. Lamont tied it shortly after and got the winner in the third. Chris Tai made 34 saves for the win.
TJ Dumonceaux rescued the two points for the Vernon Vipers with a pair of third period goals in a 2-1 win over the visiting Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Phil Middleton opened the scoring for the 'Backs in the first which was the only goal until the final frame. Danny Todosychuk made 24 saves for the win.
Michael Ederer's goal midway through the third was the winner for the Merritt Centennials in a 4-2 road win over the Powell River Kings. Zak Bowles and Sam Johnson put the Cents up in the first but Jacob Pritchard and Jonny Evans replied for the Kings in the second. Ederer and Cole Chorney tallied in the third to seal victory. Jonah Imoo made 30 saves against his old team for the win.
Brett Gruber's hat trick goal was an empty-netter to secure an 8-4 Victoria Grizzlies home win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Gruber scored all his goals in the third period with his second being the game-winner. Mitch Makin scored twice for the 'Dogs who never led on the evening. Dane Gibson had five assists for the Grizz.
Goals by Craig Puffer and Jordan Kawaguchi were enough for the Chilliwack Chiefs but they got plenty more in an 8-1 road win over the Surrey Eagles. Eric Roberts got his first of two in the second before Cole Plotnikoff got the Eagles on the board. Chilliwack tallied firve in the final frame including Roberts' second. Ryan Bowen had a goal and three helpers on the the night and David Jacobson made 29 saves for the win.
