Vees return to SOEC to host remainder of Doyle Cup

The Penticton Vees will try to put a stranglehold on the Doyle Cup Tuesday night as they return to their home rink for Game 3 of the best-of-seven set against the Brooks Bandits.

With wins of 7-2 and 1-0 in the series' first two games, the Vees have put themselves in the drivers seat but the Bandits have shown resilience in their postseason coming back from a 2-1 series deficit in the AJHL Finals.

Game 3 is set for a 7 p.m. faceoff at South Okanagan Events Centre.

Series notes:

Both teams have already used each of their goaltenders. The Vees' Chad Katunar played Game 1 but was subsequently sidelined with an injury which necessitated Michael Garteig's return to the crease for Game 2. Brooks pulled Jan Obernesser after the sixth goal in Game 1 allowing Michael Fredrick to mop up.

Penticton's Mario Lucia leads all scorers with a goal and three assists while his teammate Wade Murphy is the only player in the series with multiple goals as he had one in each game.

Brooks' only two goals have both come from defencemen. Colton Semenok and Chris Muscoby scored less than three minutes apart in the second period of Game 1 for the Bandits' only tallies to this point.

Penticton's Travis St. Denis and Brooks' David Watt each have six penalty minutes to lead that category.

Penticton's power play is 3/12 (25 per cent) while Brooks' is 1/11 (9 per cent).

Penticton is 6-2 at home in the postseason while Brooks is 6-1 on the road.
