Vipers’ Nycholat commits to attend Dartmouth for 2010/11 season

As the Vernon Vipers prepare to defend their Fred Page Cup championship, the hockey club announced Tuesday that standout defenseman Dan Nycholat has committed to Dartmouth College and will suit up for the Big Green starting next season.

The 20-year-old Nycholat has been very steady for the Vipers on the backend this season, compiling a team leading plus/minus as well as leading the team in scoring by defenseman. His offensive contributions have went a long way in Vernon's 51-win campaign, as the Calgary native has tallied seven goals and 38 points in 58 games played in his lone BCHL season.

Dartmouth College, located in Hanover, New Hampshire, is an Ivy league institution that plays out of the ECAC conference and has a hockey program that's helped several BCHL grads move on to the National Hockey League. Former Nanaimo Clippers forward Tanner Glass and Coquitlam Express grad David Jones both played at Dartmouth before suiting up for the Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche respectively.

After a 16-day layoff, Nycholat and the Vipers begin defence of their BCHL title tonight when they host the Quesnel Millionaire at the Wesbild Centre.
