A double-overtime goal by captain Patrick McGillis has, for the time being, pushed the Vernon Vipers back into a playoff spot as the Snakes topped the visiting Westside Warriors 3-2.
The teams traded goals through the game with Vernon's Michael Zalewski scoring the only goal of the first period, Westside's Travis Blanleil traded goals with Aaron Hadley in the second and Max French made OT necessary with a goal at 5:03 of the third.
In the second OT, McGillis converted a play set up by Brett Corkey. The win moved the Vipers into fourth in the Interior.
The Coquitlam Express rebounded from a lopsided Friday loss to Merritt to defeat the Cowichan Valley Capitals 4-1. The Caps' Troy Paterson actually opened the scoring 30 seconds into the game but Express goals by Clinton Atkinson, John Siemer and a pair by Mitch Nardi came in response.
A pair of goals in the third period allowed the Nanaimo Clippers to score a 3-2 road win over the Prince George Spruce Kings. Trailing 2-1 going into the final frame, the Clips got goals 1:58 apart from Graeme McCormack and Mason Blacklock to claim the lead and the win.
The Merritt Centennials won their third-straight game with a 4-2 win over the visiting Chilliwack Chiefs. Chilliwack led 2-1 after one on goals by Spencer Graboski and David Bondra. Brandon Bruce's second-period goal tied it and Evan Stack scored twice in the third to clinch it for the Cents.
Brandon Morley scored once and added two assists to earn 1st Star and help the Surrey Eagles to a 4-1 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Morley set up Linden Saip to open the scoring and then potted the winner early in the second. Evan Tironese had the lone 'Dogs goal in the second. Steve Koshey and Michael Stenerson had the other Eagles goals.
The Penticton Vees held the Salmon Arm SilverBacks to 13 shots in a 4-1 road win. Bryce Gervais, Wade Murphy and Mario Lucia scored 58 seconds apart in the first to give the Vees all they'd need. Lucia scored again in the second and Myles McCauley scored the 'Backs goal in the third.
In Powell River, the Kings scored five goals in each of the first and second periods in a 13-1 win over the Victoria Grizzlies. Brendon McDonlad scored his first of three on the power play in the first while Matt Scarth had two of his three in the second. Mark McLellan had the lone Grizz goal on the power-play in the middle stanza.
