Warriors alum Grant inks with NY Rangers

Former BCHLer Tommy Grant has agreed to a two-year contract with the NHL's New York Rangers after a fine career with the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves.

Grant has already suited up as a pro, playing with the Rangers’ American Hockey League affiliate Connecticut Whale. On March 27, Grant registered two helpers in his debut as Connecticut fell to the Providence Bruins, 4-2

“First of all thanks to the players, coaching staff and everyone affiliated with UAA program,” said Grant. “It was great going through the process and improving over the four years I was there. Hopefully the program can take this year’s success and use it to remain a top WCHA team.”

“Tommy has worked very hard for this opportunity,” said Seawolves head coach Dave Shyiak. “He is one step closer to chasing his dream of playing in the NHL. We are excited for him and are thankful for his four years of dedication to the Seawolf hockey program.”

Grant, a 6-2, 195-pound native of North Vancouver, B.C., led the UAA in points and goals this year, with 16-16-32 in 37 games. Five of Grant’s 16 goals were game-winners, which was good for a tie for fourth in the WCHA in that category.

In 134 career games with the Seawolves, Grant struck for 45 goals and 45 assists for 90 points.

Grant played one year for the Warriors in 2006-07 and led the team in scoring with 36 goals and 75 points through 56 games played. In three BCHL seasons, he suited up for Victoria and Quesnel also, tallying 53 goals and 57 assists in 157 career games.
