Warriors ground G’Hawks in shootout

Keelan Williams stopped all five attempts in the shootout and Liam Blackburn was the lone shooter to score, giving the West Kelowna Warriors a 4-3 victory over the Trenton Golden Hawks Tuesday afternoon at the RBC Cup.

West Kelowna got goals from Jonathan Desbiens and Quin Foreman in the the first and built a 3-0 lead by the 1:10 mark of the second when Brett Mennear scored to chase Trenton starter Daniel Urbani. But the Golden Hawks rallied after the goalie switch, with Jackson McIntosh making some big saves and goals coming from Hunter Fargey, Quinn Lenihan and Lucas Brown to tie it heading to the third.

The final frame was scoreless, as was the 10-minute overtime session of 4-on-4 hockey. The goalies were tough in the shootout with Blackburn the only successful shooter when the puck just trickled pas McIntosh.

West Kelowna is in action next on Wednesday against the Carleton Place Canadians. Game time is 2:30 p.m. Pacific.
