The Langley Rivermen have announced forward Torrin White has committed to play at the University of Lethbridge for the next five years. White, a 21 year-old from Balzac, Alta., returns to his home province to continue his hockey playing career beginning in September.
“It is going to be a change from playing junior hockey the last five years, but with that being said, I am very excited to start a new journey,” said White. “Spiros Anastas (head coach) has done a great job recruiting the last few years, which has given the team a lot of upside. I can’t wait to begin university and make the most of my scholarship.”
White was acquired from the Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL) in mid-October and appeared in 47 games with the Rivermen recording 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points. He also led the team in playoff scoring with four goals and one assist in five games.
“Torrin was a solid addition for us this past season and was a great mentor for your younger players,” said Rivermen Head Coach and General Manager Bobby Henderson. “His work ethic is second to none and he is one of those guys that is the first one at the rink in the morning and is the last to leave. We are thrilled he is continuing his career at the University of Lethbridge.”
Although he was only with the Rivermen for a little more than five months, White can’t say enough about his time with the franchise.
“At the start of the season last year, I was a little unsure of what I wanted to do with my future in hockey. I made the decision to leave Moose Jaw and head to Langley in the BCHL. One of the reasons I chose that path is because I love playing hockey and wanted to enjoy playing it again. I am very grateful for how Roy Henderson, Bobby Henderson, Kurt Astle, and Mitch Fyffe treated and welcomed me. My teammates were awesome and I made some great friendships that will last a lifetime as well. I also have to thank my billet, who made the whole adjustment that much easier for me.”
