Warriors’ PP marker proves decisive in goalie’s duel vs. Kings

Goaltenders Kevin Jebson and Josh Watson turned their noses up at high-scoring hockey on Friday night in Powell River, making a combined 65 saves in a 1-0 Westside Warriors victory over the Kings.

Trevor Bailey was the lone skater to solve either netminder on the night, beating Watson with just four seconds remaining in the first period to open and close the evening's scoring summary. Bailey's power-play marker was assisted by Michael Quinn and Grayson Downing.

While there was an embargo on goals throughout the rest of the game, there was no shortage of scoring chances as the teams combined for 66 shots. Westside came out firing in the first period, directing 14 pucks on Watson, while Powell River threw 17 shots on Jebson in a wild final 20 minutes.

The Warriors starter left the ice with a 35-save shutout and first star honours, while Watson was nearly as brilliant in turning aside 30 shots in a second-star performance.

Westside continues their four-game Coastal road trip on Saturday with a visit to Alberni Valleey, while the Kings play host to red-hot Surrey at the Powell River Recreation Complex.
