Warriors rout Merritt on Cancer fundraiser night

Since the beginning of the season, Westside Warriors defenceman Joel Woznikoski has been donating $2 to the Canadian Cancer Society for every goal his team scores. After Friday's 14-2 victory over the Merritt Centennials, the Warriors co-captain may need to invest in a line of credit.

Westside scored early and often against the Cents, tallying a six-pack of goals in the first period and adding four in each of the second and third frames. Alex Grieve was one of many Warriors who posted a big night offensively, scoring four times and adding a pair of assists. Meanwhile, Brendan Ellis posted a five point-night while Cam Reid, Cole Wilson and Trevor Bailey put in four-point efforts.

Grieve, Bailey and Wilson were named the game's three stars.

Dustin Johnson and Daniel Chang both returned from injury for the Centennials and supplied the team's scoring with unassisted shorthanded goals in the second and third periods.

The teams complete a weekend home-and-away series in Merritt on Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 7:30 PM from the Nicola Valley Arena.
