Warriors start RBC Cup on the right foot

Liam Blackburn scored and assisted on three others as the West Kelowna Warriors downed the host Lloydminster Bobcats 5-2 Saturday night at the RBC Cup.

OFFICIAL BOXSCORE

Jonathan Desbiens and Jake LeBrun each scored in the first and second periods to put the Warriors up 4-0 and Blackburn’s tally made it a five-goal advantage before Austin O’Rourke got the Bobcats on the board.

Brett Smythe had the lone goal of the third for Lloydminster but that was all they could get past Keelan Williams on the night. Williams wound up with 33 saves for the win.

The victory was the first ever for the Warriors at an RBC Cup. Both LeBrun goals came on the man advantage, as did Desbiens’ opener. West Kelowna went 3-for-4 on the power play in the game.

West Kelowna plays their second game of the event on Sunday against the Brooks Bandits at 6:30 p.m. Pacific.
