Who’s who at the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup?

After a long delay since the end of the BCHL playoffs, fans get to feed that hockey fix again this weekend as the second-ever Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup starts up in Dauphin, Man.

BCHL fans are pretty familiar with the Coquitlam Express and their postseason exploits. But what about who they're facing in Dauphin? We've got a quick look at each of the other four teams here.

Spruce Grove Saints (#1 Seed in AJHL North Division)

How they got to the WCC: Round 1 bye, defeated Sherwood Park Crusaders 4-3 in Round 2, defeated Ft. McMurray Oil Barons 4-3 in Round 3, defeated Drumheller Dragons 4-0 in AJHL Finals.

Players of note: Think 'H' – Jarid HauptmanCameron Hughes and Dylan Hollman were 1-2-3 in playoff scoring for the Saints. Parker McKay was the top regular season scorer with 21 goals and 37 assists in 57 games.

Kenny Cameron is the man in net, 34-7-3 in the regular season (.910 sv%), 10-4 in the playoffs (.913 sv%).

 

Yorkton Terriers (#1 Seed in SJHL)

How they got to the WCC: Defeated Notre Dame Hounds 4-1 in Round 1, defeated Humboldt Broncos 4-1 in Round 2, defeated Melville Millionaires 4-2 in SJHL Finals.

Players of note: Brett Boehm began the year in Flin Flon but led the team in the regular season and playoffs with 66 points and 16 points respectively. Blueliner Chase Norrish is a point-per-game player and forward Tayler Thompson is a key contributor too.

Kale Thompson will handle the workload in the crease. He went 31-11-3 in the regular season (.934 sv%), 12-2 in the playoffs (.936 sv%).

 

Winnipeg Blues (#4 Seed in MJHL Addison Division)

How they got to the WCC: Defeated Selkirk Steelers 4-1 in Round 1, defeated Steinbach Pistons 4-1 in Round 2, defeated Dauphin Kings 4-1 in MJHL Finals.

Players of note: Liam Bilton and Clay Tait each had 25 points in the regular season but have 17 and 14 points respectively in 17 playoff games. Warren Callis was the regular-season point leader (22-37-59) and D-man Channing Bresciani can put up points from the back end. Jackson Keane is the son of former NHLer Mike Keane.

Byron Spriggs went 19-19 in the regular season (.904 sv%) but is 14-3 in the playoffs (.936 sv%).

 

Dauphin Kings (Host, #1 Seed in MJHL Sherwood Division)

How they got to the WCC: Defeated OCN Blizzard 4-0 in Round 1, Defeated Virden Oil Capitals 4-0 in Round 2, lost to Winnipeg Blues 4-1 in MJHL Finals.

Players of note: Dylan Butler was acquired midseason from Portage and wound up with 20 goals and 37 assists to lead the team. He led with 7-7-14 in the playoffs. Brent Wold also came in from Portage and after a 47-point regular season, had 5-7-12 in playoffs. 

Former BCHLer Michael Stiliadis went 21-5 (.907 sv%) in regular season and has an 8-3 mark (.909 sv%) in playoffs.
