The Prince George Spruce Kings and the Wenatchee Wild are set to meet in this year’s Fred Page Cup Final and renew their rivalry from last season where the two teams met in the first round of the BCHL playoffs.
Each team has seven players on their current roster that were a part of last year’s series, which saw Wenatchee win in Game 6 after a dramatic third-period comeback, including two goals in the final minute to give the Wild a 4-3 win.
This year, the two teams split the season series, with each team winning at home. On Nov. 11, the Wild got two-point efforts from Jasper Weatherby and Sam Morton and AJ Vanderbeck scored the eventual game-winning goal late in the second period as Wenatchee held on for a 3-2 win.
In the rematch Dec. 9 in Prince George, the Wild jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one period, but the Spruce Kings stormed back with three straight markers, including a pair from Blake Hayward, and topped Wenatchee 4-3. Prince George forward Chong Min Lee had two goals and two assists and was named the game’s first star.
