Wilson’s winner lifts Westside to comeback win over Burnaby in OT

Cole Wilson scored at the 1:45 mark of overtime on Saturday, putting the finishing touches on a Westside Warriors comeback win on the road over the Burnaby Express.

Following a scoreless first period, Burnaby hit the scoreboard first when Matt Ius scored shorthanded off a Brad Reid set-up at the 6:21 mark of the second period. Reid then extended the lead to two goals early in the third period on a shorthanded marker of his own.

Westside pulled within one at the 12:55 mark of the third when co-captain Trevor Bailey converted a feed from Alex Grieve. Bailey then set up the tying goal with just 46 seconds remaining in regulation with Burnaby blueliner Chris Van Duynhoven serving a boarding penalty.

Wilson then ended the game with the overtime winner.

Kevin Jebson picked up the victory over Burnaby for the second time in as many nights, turning aside 20 shots. Express starter Nick Energren made 22 saves in the loss.

Burnaby is now idle until Friday when they begin a three-game Vancouver Island road trip in Nanaimo. Westside, meanwhile, returns home for an encounter with the Langley Chiefs on Tuesday.
