Wood named Subway BCHL Player of the Week

Victoria Grizzlies goaltender Blake Wood has been named the Subway BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 15.

The Nanaimo product posted back-to-back wins over the weekend against his hometown team, stopping 80 of the 84 shots he faced, finishing the week with a.952 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.

On Wednesday, Wood made 36 saves on 37 shots, including 17 in the third period, in a 3-1 win over his former team the Nanaimo Clippers. He was named the game’s first star. On Saturday, in a rematch against Nanaimo, the 18-year-old made 44 stops in a 6-3 victory, earning second-star honours.

Wood has now won five of his last six starts and improved his record to 8-9 on the season with a .909 save percentage.
