Alberni Valley alum Slubowski recognized for stellar freshman campaign

Former Alberni Valley Bulldogs netminder Frank Slubowski of the Western Michigan University Broncos has been named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association all-rookie team.

Slubowski started 27 games on the season between the pipes for the Broncos and his 2.03 goals against average will break the WMU single season record for lowest goals against average in program history.

The 21-year-old rookie played a total of 1,624 minutes in net, earning a 13-10-4 record with three shutouts, including two over CCHA regular-season champions Ferris State. Slubowski finished with a .909 save percentage and was named CCHA Rookie of the Month for February, helping the Broncos secure a second-place finish in the league. Slubowski is the first goalie since Riley Gill (2006) to be named to the All-Rookie team and third in program history.

In two seasons with the Bulldogs, the Prince Rupert, B.C. native played 101 games and compiled a 54-37-5 record to go along with six shutouts, a 2.60 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.
