Wisconsin Duo are WCHA Men’s Players of the Week

Two BCHL alums, who currently play with the Wisconsin Badgers, have been named the Red Baron Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Players of the Week for March 6.

The Offensive Player of the Week is Mark Zengerle. A former Salmon Arm Silverback from 2009 to 2011, Zengerle factored on all five of his team’s goals in a two-game conference road split versus No. 1-ranked Minnesota last weekend. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward led the Badgers to a 4-1 win with four points on Friday, March 2, and followed up with an assist with a 2-1 setback versus Minnesota Saturday. Zengerle shares the national lead with 37 assists while ranking fourth in the nation with 49 points.

Freshman goaltender Joel Rumpel is the WCHA Rookie of the Week. Rumpel, who played two seasons with the Penticton Vees, stopped 56 of 59 shots on goal for a .949 save percentage and posted four shutout periods to help the Badgers in their back-to-back bout with Minnesota. The 6-foot-3 netminder is now 11-10-2 on the season with a 2.59 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.
