Alberni’s Tye Lewis commits to Sacred Heart for 2010/11 season

The British Columbia Hockey League's Alberni Valley Bulldogs are pleased to announce that graduating forward Tye Lewis has committed to attend Sacred Heart University and suit up for the NCAA Division I Pioneers for the 2010/11 season.

Lewis recently completed his first BCHL season by helping the Bulldogs to within a game of their first Coastal Conference championship. The 20-year old netted 11 points in 13 postseason games after a 64-point regular season split between Alberni Valley and Trail.

“We are very excited for Tye” commented Bulldogs' General Manager/Head Coach Paul Esdale, “Tye is an offensively gifted player that deserves this opportunity. Tye’s hard work on and off the ice, combined with academic advisor Tom McEvays’ guidance and direction, Tye’s dream of playing Division 1 hockey has become a reality.”

The Vancouver, WA product is widely known for his big shot, quick release, and explosive speed. He will be pursuing an academic program in either Criminal Justice or Business at Sacred Heart.

“I knew playing in Alberni would give me the best chance of achieving my dream of playing NCAA  Division I hockey,” said Lewis, “I owe the organization a lot for the work they did to help me realize that goal. I am looking forward to this next chapter in my life.”

Lewis is set to join Coastal Conference rival Chad Niddery of the Powell River Kings at Sacred Heart. He is the ninth Bulldogs player to receive a university or college commitment this season.
