One is a senior putting the finishing touches on a fine NCAA career and the other is just making his mark is his freshman campaign but both had great impact for their programs last weekend.
Veteran RIT forward Brad McGowan, a former Surrey Eagles star, was named the Atlantic Hockey Association's player of the week while former Nanaimo Clippers netminder Jayson Argue of Bentley University was named the conference's rookie of the week.
McGowan notched three goals and two assists and was +3 for the weekend as the Tigers split a series with Robert Morris University. The Langley, BC product assisted on RIT's first goal in a 4-3 setback but followed that with his first NCAA hat trick, including the winner, plus a helper in a 4-3 come-from-behind victory.
The 24-year-old forward now has 14 goals and 19 assists on the season. In two years with the Surrey Eagles, McGowan had 48 goals and 87 assists for 135 points in 117 games.
Argue was busy for Bentley, making 66 saves on 69 shots as the Falcons tied Army both nights. The Swan River, Man. product made 32 saves in the first draw and followed with 34 more the next night for .957 save percentage on the weekend.
For the season, Argue's .940 save percentage is second in NCAA Div. I hockey and his 1.86 goals-against average is eighth.
With the Clippers, Argue went 44-36-1 over two seasons with a .919 save percentage, 2.71 goals-against average and seven shutouts.
