Chiefs captain Roberts inks with UAA

There will be lots of familiar faces around next season for Eric Roberts when he starts his freshman season at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

That's because he is the third Chilliwack Chiefs player this season to commit to the NCAA Div. I program. Roberts, along with Chiefs forwards Luke McColgan and Jake Larson, will suit up for the the Seawolves this fall.

Roberts, the Chiefs captain this season, has played three seasons in the BCHL and has surpassed previous highs in goals, points and penalty minutes this season. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Abbotsford native has three goals, 25 assist and 73 PIMs on the campaign.

At UAA, Roberts will be one of 14 BCHL alums on the roster next season. Also, current UAA assistant coach Josh Ciocco is a former BCHLer with Salmon Arm.

The Seawolves hockey program competes in the NCAA's Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) against programs such as Michigan Tech, Bemidji State, Ferris State and Minnesota State.
