BCHL alums take it outdoors at Frozen Fenway 2012

With the spectre of the Green Monster rising high beyond the right-wing corner, the University of Vermont did battle with the University of Massachusetts and then the University of New Hampshire and the University of Maine went at it.

A quartet of BCHL grads got in on the action with goalie Kevin Boyle (Westside) and forward Eric Filiou (Penticton) getting a 3-2 overtime win with UMass and defenceman Damon Kipp (Salmon Arm) and forward Grayson Downing (Westside) dropping a 5-4 decision with New Hampshire, also in OT.

Filiou scored UMass' first goal while Downing aum, potted the tying goal for New Hampshire to send the game into OT. The attendance for both games played in the home of the Boston Red Sox was 38,456.

Last season, Salmon Arm grad Ben Winnett of the University of Michigan, played in front of a record crowd in the Big Chill at the Big House, an outdoor contest versus Michigan State at Michigan's football stadium.

With outdoor hockey games becoming more and more common, it's sure BCHL grads in the NCAA ranks will continue to have opportunities to play on some of the biggest stages the game has to offer.
