BCHL Friday: Chiefs’ seven tops Clippers

  • Friday marked an impressive high the Langley Chiefs in what's otherwise been an up-and-down first third of the BC Hockey League season.

Colton Beck notched a hat trick in less than 25 minutes and Chris Ickert added three points forthe Chiefs, and Andrew Walsh stopped 35 shots in net en route to a 7-4 home ice victory over the Nanaimo Clippers.

Brandon Fagerheim replied with a pair for the Clippersm while Kurtis Bartliff and Anders Franzon added singles.

In other Coastal Conference arenas:

  • Clay Harvey's goal with just a minute left in regulation led the Powell River Kings to a 3-2 road win at Surrey. Kyle Bodie tallied two goals and added an assist for the Kings, while Liam Harding scored a pair for the Eagles.
  • The Cowichan Valley Capitals rode a Taylor Holst goal in double overtime to a 3-2 comeback victory over the visiting Victoria Grizzlies. Zach Currie scored and assisted for the Caps, and Jonathan Milhouse and Myles MacRae had each scored in the first period to stake the Grizzlies to an early two-goal lead. 

Meanwhile, the Burnaby Express made it two straight on their four-game Interior Conference road trip with a 2-1 overtime win in Prince George. John Bokla did the extra-time damage for the Express and netminder Richie Virtanen picked up first star honours for his 31-save performance.

Max Grassi and Sam Muchalla accounted for the regulation time markers. Alex Wright turned aside 28 shots in the Spruce Kings' net. In other Interior Conference buildings:

  • Alberni Valley's road woes continued in a 4-1 loss to Penticton at th South Okanagan Events Centre. Garrett Milan was the man for the Vees, scoring three times and adding an assist, while Travis Ouellette notched three points and Sean Bonar stopped 27 of 28 Bulldogs shots for the win.
  • Zac Rasmussen's third period marker was the difference in Salmon Arm's 4-3 road win in Vernon. Colin Lidster's goal and assist in the second period keyed the Silverbacks' attack, while Kellen Jones replied with two points for the Vipers.
  • The Westside/Trail game was postponed after an unpassable highway kept the Smoke Eaters from reaching Westside. The game will be rescheduled and played at a later date.
