BCHL Friday: Grant nets pair to lead Kings to first win of 2010

The Powell River Kings fought off a challenge from the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday night, breaking a second period deadlock and eventually claiming victory by a 4-2 margin.

Jordan Grant opened the scoring for the Kings at the 15:58 mark of the first period off a feed from Chad Niddery, and Daniel Carr doubled the Powell River advantage with a power-play marker early in the second frame.

The Capitals bounced back, however, as Mike Hammond scored a pair of goals in the span of 2:08 to draw the visitors level. The game remained tied until Matt Garbowsky scored with the man advantage late in the period, and Grant put the game away with his second of the night midway through the third.

Cowichan Valley netminder Alex Peck was kept busy by 49 shots in a losing effort, while Michael Garteig picked up the victory with an 18-save performance.

The Capitals continue their three-game, three-day road trip with a visit to Surrey on Saturday evening, while Powell River next hits the ice when they host Prince George on Tuesday.
