Brossoit backstops Team Pacific to first win at World U-17 tourney

Cowichan Valley Capitals netminder Laurent Brossoit picked up his first victory in a Team Canada jersey on Wednesday afternoon, stopping 17 shots in a 10-4 victory over Atlantic Canada at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Brossoit's teammates piled on the goal support in the win, scoring four in the first and third periods. Reece Scarlett scored one and added four assists to pace the offence, while Miles Bell scored twice and Ty Rattie and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins chipped in four helpers apiece. Nine different players scored goals for Pacific (1-1), which had its biggest offence output since a pair of 11-goal games in 2006.

Brossoit finished the game with 17 saves, including 11 during a busy third period.

With the win, Pacific draws even at 1-1 with a day off to look forward to before facing the Czech Republic on Friday. They then close out the four-game round robin portion of the tournament on Saturday versus the United States.

Pacific will likely need to win  both games in order to qualify for the semi-finals, which take place Sunday.
