BCHL Friday: Vipers end Caps’ run

The Cowichan Valley Capitals arrived in Vernon hoping to continue a string of positive results on their Interior Conference road swing after a pair of big wins in Penticton and Trail . It didn't take long for the Vipers to mute the Capitals' hopes for a third.

Vernon jumped out to a four-goal first period lead and didn't look back in an 8-4 win. Braden Pimm led the way offensively for the Vipers, scoring once and adding two assists while a number of his teammates put forth multi-point efforts.

Kevin Walrod replied with a two-point night for the visitors, while Taylor Pears relived starter Chris Rawlings midway through the first period and went the rest of the way for the Caps.

Meanwhile, in other action around the Interior:

  • Zack Josepher scored once and added a trio of helpers in an 8-2 Penticton Vees win over Merritt. Denver Manderson and Ryan Viselli each notch three points for the home side, while Sean Bonar stopped 20 of 22 shots for the victory.
  • Adam Stuart's goal with one second remaining in overtime lifted Quesnel to a 5-4 win in Prince George. Trevor Hertz kept his torrid pace offensively scoring twice, while Joe Morgan responded with a goal and an assist for the Spruce Kings.
  • Justin Schultz scored twice, including the winner late in the first period, in Westside's 4-1 home ice win over Burnaby. Kevin Jebson turned aside 33 shots for the win, while Jordan Gagne posted two assists. Max Grassi scored the lone Express marker.

Down on the coast, the Surrey Eagles couldn't shut down Powell River's offensive dynamo, falling 5-2 on the road. League scoring leader Darcy Oakes paced the Kings a goal and assist, while Erik Vos, Brooks Robinson, Chad Niddery, Ryan Green and Kyle Bodie all posted two points. Carsen Chubak continued his strong play in net with a 21-save performance

Mike Henderson and Chris Santiago replied for the Eagles.

Elsewhere around the Coastal Conference:

  • Mac Roy earned first star honours with a three-point effort in Langley's 5-1 home ice win over Alberni Valley. Derek Grant was also a force for the Chiefs, while Jackson Garrett tallied for the Bulldogs.
  • Evan Smith's 28-save effort was the difference in Nanaimo, where the Clippers were outshot badly but rallied to a 4-1 win over Victoria. Anders Franzon led a foursome of Nanaimo players with two point nights, while Evan Pighin notched the Grizzles tally.
