BCHL grad Thiessen named Hockey East Player of the Year

Northeastern University goaltender Brad Thiessen (Merritt Centennials/Prince George Spruce Kings) was named Hockey East Player of the Year and a Hobey Baker Award finalist at the league’s awards banquet on Thursday at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Mass.

In addition, Thiessen was named a Hockey East first-team All-Star.

Wade MacLeod (Coquitlam, B.C./Merritt Centennials) was named All-Star honorable mention.

Thiessen posted a 2.09 GAA and a .932 save percentage, playing in all 27 league games for the Huskies. Overall, Thiessen has played every minute in net for the Huskies, posting a 25-10-4 record, 2.07 goals against average and a .932 save percentage. He leads the nation in saves (1,125) and minutes (2373:02) and ranks second in the nation in wins (25). Northeastern is 15-0-1 when Thiessen allows one goal or less and 19-1-4 when he allows two goals or less.

Thiessen is in the top three of every major goaltending category in the Northeastern record books. He holds season records for wins (25) and minutes (2373:02) and is the career leader in shutouts (nine), goals against average (2.39) and save percentage (.923). He is Northeastern's first-ever Hockey East Player of the Year.

On Wednesday, Hockey East announced that Thiessen was ITECH Goaltending Champion and received the Three Stars Award. For more information on Thiessen, check http://www.Thiessen39.com.

MacLeod is Northeastern’s leading scorer in 27 Hockey East games at 9-17-26 and 39 overall games at 14-20-34. That’s an improvement over his rookie numbers of 11-16-27. The Coquitlam, B.C. native is an excellent stick handler with a 25-36-61 line in 76 career games.
