Berger commits to UConn

Veteran Victoria Grizzlies defenceman Carter Berger has committed to play for the University of Connecticut Huskies for the 2019-20 season, where he will have some familiar faces in the room as four other current BCHL players are committed to the Huskies and four others are starting their freshman seasons this year.

Berger is now in his third season with the Grizzlies and has played in 110 career regular-season games and tallied 51 career points. He is off to a strong start this year with six points in his team’s first 10 games.

The North Vancouver native will join a Huskies team that will feature former Powell River Kings Jonny Evans and Carter Turnbull, former Langley Riverman John Wojciechowski and former Trail Smoke Eater Kale Howarth. Former Penticton Vee Miles Gendron is also playing his senior season at UConn this year.

Berger is the fifth current BCHLer to commit to the Huskies, joining Penticton forwards Drew Elser and Eric Linell, Trail Smoke Eaters forward Sean Donaldson and Vernon Vipers defenceman Michael Young.

Last season, the Huskies finished tied for fifth in the Hockey East conference with a record of 11-12-1 and lost in the conference quarterfinals to Boston University.
