Bulldogs Alum Zolnierczyk scores first NHL goal in lopsided Flyers win

The outcome of the game had long since been decided, but that won't matter to Alberni Valley Bulldogs alum Harry Zolnierczyk because he scored in his first NHL game, tallying the seventh goal of the game for the Philadelphia Flyers in a 7-2 win over the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night.

Zolnierczyk, who scored 29 goals and 31 assists in 100 BCHL games during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, took a feed from Max Talbot after an offensive-zone faceoff and beat Craig Anderson with a high backhand shot. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Toronto native caught the attention of social media users who, having trouble spelling 'Zolnierczyk', took to referring to him as Harry Z which became a trend on Twitter last night.

After a four-year career at Brown University where he served as team captain his senior year, Zolnierczyk signed as a free agent in the spring and played 16 games with the Flyers affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms. Zolnierczyk had a goal and three assists in four games with Adirondack to start this season to earn the promotion.

The Flyers Wednesday recalled star prospect Brayden Schenn and returned Zolnierczyk to Adirondack but he should be high on the list for recall should the opportunity come up again.
