Former Vipers goaltender Andrew Hammond picks up CCHA kudos

Andrew Hammond of the Bowling Green State University Falcons has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's goaltender of the Week.

The White Rock native recorded his first shutout of the season, had a .980 save percentage and allowed just one goal in the Falcons two wins over the University of Alabama-Huntville.

Now in his junior year at BGSU, Hammond spent two seasons in the BCHL with the Surrey Eagles and Vernon Vipers. In his final BCHL campaign, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound netminder backstopped the Snakes to their first of back-to-back RBC Cup national Junior A titles.

In 85 career BCHL games, Hammond collected an 48-30-2 record with eight shutouts, a 2.74 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. So far this season, he is 3-0-1 with a 1.47 GAA and a .931 sv. %.
