Caps pick up big home win

The Cowichan Valley Capitals found their offensive groove on Wednesday night, as Mike Hammond and Jordan Grant each netted four points in a 7-4 victory over the Prince George Spruce Kings.

The Caps jumped out to a four-goal lead in the first period on a pair of tallies from Hammond and power-play and shorthanded markers from Shawn Mueller. Grant extended the lead to five early in the second, and the teams traded goals from there to salt away the Cowichan Valley win.

Faiz Khan led the way for the visitors with a goal and two assists, while Chris Bodo enjoyed a two-point night and RJay Berra and Connor Tiechko added singles.

Alex Peck picked up the win, turning aside 32 of the 36 shots sent his way.

Meanwhile, in Vernon, the Quesnel Millionaires battled the hometown Vipers to a 1-1 draw. John Knisely`s second period goal seemed posied to deliver two points to the hosts, but Devin Balness evened the scored with 2:08 left in regulation to send the game to an overtime that would solve nothing.

Mills' netminder Kirby Halcrow grabbed first star honours with a 41-save performance, as the Vipers were unable to convert on a night when they outshot Quesnel by a 42-18 margin.
