Caps product Currie named Quinnipiac captain

Quinnipiac junior defenceman Zack Currie, a Cowichan Valley Capitals alum, has been announced as the Bobcats captain for the 2012-13 season.

Currie is the 27th captain in the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey history and the 12th in the program's Division I history.

"Zack Currie is an outstanding choice to be our captain for the 2012-13 season," said head coach Rand Pecknold. "His work ethic is exemplary and he has a true commitment to excellence."

Currie had a banner season in which he set career highs in goals (9) and points (18). He tripled his career goal total of three goals as he found the back of the net nine times as a junior. He also matched his single-season high of nine assists on his way to 18 points in 2011-12.

Off the ice, Currie has carried a cumulative grade-point average of 3.74 as an athletic training major. He has also been at the forefront of several Positive Play programs, including visits to Green Acres Elementary School, while also participating in several Quinnipiac ice hockey organized camps and clinics.

While with the Captials, Currie totaled 118 points in 195 career games, scoring 24 goals and assisting on 69 more. In his final season with Cowichan Valley in 2008-09, he had 11 goals and 29 assists.
