Surrey Eagles Steal Game 2 wtih 2-1 Win

After being shutout in Game 1, forward Brandon Tanev finally got Surrey on the scoreboard in Game 2, helping the Eagles steal one at Powell River with a 2-1 win.

Like in Game 1 the Kings held the Eagles shots on goal to a minimum, but this time they made them count. Tanev scored the Eagles’ first goal in the series at 14:21, and less than a minute later forward Charles Orzetti got the Eagles a two goal lead. Kings goalie Sean Maguire wasn’t as sharp Wednesday night, stopping only 23 of 25 shots.

For the Eagles, goaltender Andrew Hunt added to his solid Game 1 with 34 saves Wednesday night. The series is now tied at 1-1 and resumes Friday at 7 p.m. PT.

In Penticton, the Vees looked to go up 2-0 in the Interior Conference Finals after dominating the Merritt Centennials in Game 1. But on this night the Cents were ready to match the Vees’ offence, beating them 4-3 to even the series at 1-1.

The Vees scored first, a power play goal at 2:27 in the opening period. However, in the second it was all Merritt. They scored four goals, beating goalie Chad Katunar after the netminder had gone seven periods without allowing a goal.

After stealing one in Penticton the Eagles head home for Game 3 on Friday at 7:30 p.m. PT.
