Cents’ grad Wong named ECAC Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University men’s ice hockey junior Brandon Wong (Victoria, British Columbia) was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week on Oct. 20, 2008.

The junior center is the second Bobcat in as many weeks to win the award after Bryan Leitch won on October 13. Wong had an impressive showing at the Mutual of Omaha Stampede this past weekend. He was named to the All-Tournament team at the event hosted by the University of Nebraska-Omaha at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb. after leading the field in points with five over two games.

Wong had a natural hat trick in Quinnipiac’s season-opener against Union College, scoring three times in the first period. He then followed up that performance with a pair of assists in Quinnipiac’s 4-1 win over American International on the second day of the tournament. Wong’s hat trick was the fourth of his career and his first since Feb. 13, 2007 against American International College.

Wong is currently tied for the ECAC Hockey lead in goals (3) and points (5) while Leitch leads ECAC Hockey with four assists.

Quinnipiac returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 30 when they travel to Lowell, Mass. to take on the River Hawks of UMass Lowell in a non-conference match-up at Paul E. Tsongas Arena at 7 p.m.
