Chiefs grad Beck takes conference Rookie of the Week nod

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association conference took note of a productive week from University of Alaska-Fairbanks forward and Langley Chiefs grad Colton Beck, naming him Rookie of the Week on Thursday.

A Langley native, Beck is in his freshman season with UAF and helped the Nanooks to a non-conference split with the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves and a successful defence of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup.

Beck had two goals and an assist in UAF's win Friday over the Seawolves. For the season, he is eighth in Nanooks scoring with four goals and 12 assists.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pounder played three seasons with the Chiefs, recording two 30-goals seasons. His best campaign was the 2009-10 season where he notched 39 goals and 47 assists while playing all 60 regular season games. He totalled 13 points in 10 playoff games that year.

In all, Beck recorded 79 goals and 80 assists in 166 career regular season games.
