Chiefs work overtime on consecutive nights to top Grizzlies

The Langley Chiefs already had their work cut out for them on a three-game Vancouver Island road trip, but they decided to put in some extra work for the second straight night and it paid off in a 3-2 win over Victoria.

Marcus Watson engineered Saturday's victory for the Chiefs with a pair of goals, including the winner at the 1:36 mark of overtime. Watson had previously tied the game on a third period power-play after his team twice fell behind. Colton Beck, who assisted on Watson's clincher, added a goal for Langley.

Joel Lowry and Wesley Myron replied for the Grizzlies, while netminder Richie Virtanen earned the first star nod after a 31-save performance. Matt Green collected the win for the Chiefs, turning aside 26 shots.

Langley now heads back across the Georgia Straight to begin a home-and-home series with the Surrey Eagles, while Victoria continues its current four-game homestand with a visit from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Tuesday.
