Clippers and Mills Grab Wins Sunday

After a busy Saturday night, there were just two games on the schedule in the BCHL on Sunday. The Nanaimo Clippers were in Surrey to take on the Eagles and the Trail Smoke Eaters were in Quesnel looking for a three game sweep on their northern road trip as they faced the Quesnel Millionaires.

The Clippers were come home victorious with a 4-1 win while the Smokies were upended 5-2 by the Millionaires.

In Quesnel, the Millionaires rebounded from a 4-1 loss to the Smoke Eaters Saturday with a solid 5-2 win Sunday. Dustin Popowich scored twice to pace the Mills while John Williams added two assists in the win. Chad Blanleil, Tom Margetak, and Darryl Gagnon potted the other Quesnel markers. Jeff Malcolm picked up the win in goal turning aside 25 Trail shots. The Millionaires improve their record to 3 wins and 1 loss while the Smoke Eaters take 2 of 3 games on the road win wins over the Prince George Spruce Kings and Mills Friday and Saturday respectively.

The Nanaimo Clippers keep their perfect record in tact with a 4-1 win over the Surrey Eagles at the South Surrey Arena Sunday. It was Warren Muir who led the way for the Boatmen as he scored twice in the Clipper win. Matt Irwin continues to put up points from the backend as he recorded two more assists, establishing himself as a top defenseman in the BCHL. Brad McConnell and Todd Kennedy were the other Clipper scorers while Evan Smith picked up the win in goal making 26 saves.

Next action in the BCHL goes Tuesday night as the Victoria Grizzlies are in Cowichan Valley to take on the Capitals.
