University of Denver junior goaltender Marc Cheverie has been honored by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for his efforts in Denver's two-game sweep of the University of North Dakota on Jan. 29-30.
The former Nanaimo Clipper starter backstopped visiting Denver to the sweep by stopping 55 of 57 shots on goal in the series for a .964 saves percentage, posted four shutout periods, and blanked the Sioux on all 13 of their weekend power-play chances. Cheverie stopped all 33 shots he faced en route to Denver’s 2-0 victory for his NCAA Div. I-leading sixth shutout of the season. He also stopped all nine opponent power-play attempts.
On Saturday, Cheverie came back to stop 22 of 24 shots on goal in the Pioneers’ 4-2 win, giving Denver its first four-game, regular-season series vs. the Fighting Sioux since 1992/93.
On the season, Cheverie (14-3-3, 2.01 GAA, .932 Sv%) leads the WCHA in goals-against average, saves percentage and shutouts, and is second in winning percentage (.775).
