Coastal Finals Update: Grizz alive with Game 5 win

The Victoria Grizzlies lived to fight another day in their Coastal Conference Finals series against Powell River on Friday, securing a 4-1 home ice win and a Game 6 match-up on the Sunshine Coast come Saturday night.

The Kings opened the scoring Friday just 12 seconds into the game on a Chad Niddery goal, but Victoria took charge of the offence the rest of the way. First, Jonathan Milhouse evened the game four minutes into the second period. The Grizzlies then scored a trio of third period goals.

Tyler Gubb put his team ahead at the 2:31 mark of the period before Derek Lee extended the lead six minutes later. Gubb capped the scoring with an empty net goal less than a minute from the end of regulation.

Anthony Grieco picked up the win in net for Victoria, stopping 19 of the 20 shots sent his way. Kings goaltender Carsen Chubak stopped 20 in a losing cause.

The Kinsg now have a chance to end the series on home ice and avoid a return trip to Victoria. Game 6 faces off at 7:30 PM from the Powell River Recreation Complex on Saturday night.
