Coastal Playoff Update: Kings advance with Game 5 win

There is just one spot in the Coastal Final up for grabs as the Cowichan Valley Capitals were the lone BCHL team to extend their series with a win over the Grizzlies in Victoria.

Surrey (1) at Powell River (4)

The Powell River Kings used home ice and a supportive crowd to finish off their quest to reach the Coastal Conference final with a 6-1 win over the Surrey Eagles.  The win ends a successful season for the Eagles while the Kings take one step closer to the Fred Page Cup.

With the exception of game three where the Kings fell 1-0 to the Eagles in extra time, the Sunshine Coast squad scored in bunches finishing the series with 25 goals for and allowing just 3 against.

Kyle Bodie led the way for the Kings as he scored the natural hat-trick in the second period while netminder Carson Chubak turned aside 26 Surrey shots.

Clay Harvey and Darcy Oakes turned in multiple point performances as both recorded a pair of assists.

The Kings will await the winner of the Victoria-Cowichan Valley series which resumes Saturday night in Cowichan Valley.

Victoria (3)  at Cowichan Valley (2) — Saturday 7:30PM,

The Cowichan Valley Capitals were able to accomplish what no other BCHL team was able to do Friday night – force a game six.

The Capitals walked into the Bear Mountain Arena Friday and ran out of town with a 4-1 win over the Grizzlies.  It was the Chris Rawlings shows as he was a wall in the Capitals net facing 53 shots and allowing just a single goal.

Micket Spencer scored once and added a pair of assists to pace the Capitals while Alex Gellert, Anthony Perdicaro, and Chris Zaires all recorded a goal and one assist.

Jonathan Milhouse scored the lone goal for the Grizzlies as his third period goal gave the home side a glimmer of hope cutting into a 3-0 Capitals lead.  Gellert's goal restored the 3 goal lead and closed the door on any hopes of a comeback.

The two teams will hit the ice Saturday in Cowichan Valley and game 7, if necessary, will go Tuesday in Victoria.
