Coastal Wrap: Kings take 3-game lead over Chiefs with road win

The Powell River Kings took their show on the road Friday night, but the ingredients for winning hockey remained the same for the Coastal Conference's second seed. The Kings held the Langley Chiefs to just 18 shots on their home ice and took a three-game lead in their second round series with a 4-1 victory.

The good news for the Chiefs on Friday was that they hit the scoreboard less than two minutes after the opening faceoff on a goal from Mac Roy. But unfortunately for the hosts, it was the only puck they would put past Powell River netminder Josh Watson on the night. Daniel Carr drew the Kings even within minutes, and the Kings picked up further offence from Steven Schmidt and Matt Garbowsky before the first period drew to a close.

The visitors gave Langley little chance to draw back within a goal over the game's final 40 minutes, limiting the Chiefs to just four shots in each frame before Chad Niddery sealed the victory at the 4:00 mark of the third off a feed from Reid Campbell.

Watson picked up the win with a 17-save effort, while Carr was named the game's first star. Langley starter Wyatt Galley faced 26 shots and allowed four goals in the loss.

Powell River now has the opportunity to close out the series with a win on Saturday evening at the Langley Events Centre. Faceoff is set for 7:00 PM.
