Fred Page Cup tour kicks off at Chiefs/Kings game on Saturday

As eight teams battle to progress towards a Fred Page Cup Championship, one of hockey’s most recognizable trophies is taking to the road in a tour of British Columbia Hockey League arenas. Its first stop will come on Saturday evening at the Langley Events Centre for Game 4 of the Coastal Conference semi-finals series between the Langley Chiefs and Powell River Kings.

The tour, which is presented by BC Hydro, will continue through the end of this season's Fred Page Cup playoffs. Further tour dates will be announced shortly.

“The Fred Page Cup is one of the best-known trophies in junior hockey,” says BCHL Commissioner John Grisdale. “I’ve seen firsthand what a special feeling it is for our players who have persevered through a long playoff run to hoist it, and I hope that having it tour the province will give our fans the opportunity to experience the excitement of the Fred Page Cup for themselves.”

Junior hockey pioneer and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Fred Page spent his life advancing the game at its grassroots. Central in the creation of the British Columbia Hockey League, Page volunteers countless years of his life ensuring that young people would be able to play the sport that he loved. Following his passing in 1997, the BCHL recognized his legacy by renaming its Championship Trophy in his honour. Each year, the league’s Coastal and Interior Conference winners meet in a best-of-seven series for the privilege of hoisting the Fred Page Cup.
