Consecutive OT wins give Salmon Arm a sweep of Vernon

Sean Flanagan's overtime winner for Salmon Arm gave the SilverBacks a sweep of the visiting Vernon Vipers on Celebration Weekend.

Not long after the Vipers had killed a penalty in the first overtime session, Flanagan finished a setup from Morgan Zulinick allowing the home side its second straight OT win.

In regulation time, Adam Tambellini opened the scoring in the second period before Shane Hanna and Garrett Hendrickson replied for Salmon Arm. Aaron Hadley's power-play goal tied it in the third setting up Flanagan's heroics.

In Cowichan Valley, Matt Brown's power-play tally at 15:13 of the first period proved to be the only goal of the night as the Capitals hung on for a 1-0 win over the Victoria Grizzlies. Derek Dun made 19 saves for the shutout while Jamie Tucker made 40 stops for the Grizz.

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs earned the weekend split with the Nanaimo Clippers posting a 6-5 home win paced by Justin Morello's hat trick. Morello opened the scoring in the first and the 'Dogs built a 4-0 lead early in the second before Colton Cyr got the first of three straight for the Clips. Nanaimo was never quite able to tie it with Artsiom Kalashnikov's third-period tally being the winner for Alberni Valley.

In Trail, the Smoke Eaters got two goals from Connor Tiechko and great goaltending from Lyndon Stanwood in a 3-1 win over the Westside Warriors. Tanner Hicks opened the scoring for Trail in the second and Tiechko added his pair in the third before Tyler Krause got the Warriors' only goal.

The Merritt Centennials also completed a weekend sweep with a 4-3 double-overtime win over the Prince George Spruce Kings. Merritt led 3-1 after 40 minutes with Brandon Bruce, Regan Soquila and Billy Marshal scoring but Paul De Jersey and Michael Colantone scored in the third to force OT where Brandon Pfeil won it 28 seconds into the second OT period.

A third OT game Saturday went in favour of the Surrey Eagles over the Powell River Kings. A night after being spanked 7-1 in Powell River, the Eagles built a 3-0 lead to chase Jamie Phillips from the Kings crease but the move seemed to spark the Kings as they fought back to tie it getting the 3-3 goal in the final minute from Steven Schmidt. Surrey's Steve Koshey snapped a shot five-hole on Sean Maguire in double OT to win it.

The Coquitlam Express bounced back with a 6-3 road win over the Langley Rivermen getting a pair from captain Alex Petan. The Express got three power-play goals on the night including Brady Shaw's marker in the third that made it 6-2. Austin Plevy got the final tally of the game for Langley.

A five-goal second period by the Penticton Vees buried the visiting Chilliwack Chiefs in a 9-0 win for the home side. Logan Johnston marked his return from suspension with a 1st Star showing that included two goals and an assist. Connor Reilly and Bryce Gervais also had a pair each for Penticton while Michael Garteig made 23 saves for the shutout.
