Cowichan Valley’s Brossoit named BCHL Player of the Week

Cowichan Valley Capitals netminder Laurent Brossoit has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending December 13th, the league announced Monday.

Brossoit picked up a pair of wins in two appearances last week, earning decisions in Quesnel and Williams Lake. On Friday, the 16-year old entered the game early in the second period with his team trailing the Quesnel Millionaires by a 4-1 margin, and stopped all 29 shots he faced in a come-from-behind 5-4 victory. Two days later, Brossoit received the starting assignment in Williams Lake and earned a shutout by turning aside another 29 shots.

In total, Brossoit played 97:54 of shutout hockey last week, stopping all 58 shots sent his way and earning first star honours in both games played. The Capitals picked up three wins on their three-game Northern road swing, also earning a victory in Prince George.

The following players received honourable mentions for the Player of the Week award: Burnaby's Rich Manley, Alberni Valley's Mark MacMillan and Powell River's Jordan Grant.

Brossoit and the Capitals return to action on Friday night when they host the Williams Lake Timberwolves in the first game of a three-game homestand.
