Cowichan Valley’s Massingham commits to Div. III Wisconsin-Superior

The British Columbia Hockey League's Cowichan Valley Capitals are pleased to announce that team captain Joey Massingham has committed to attend the University of Wisconsin-Superior and suit up for the NCAA Division III Yellow Jackets for the 2010/11 season.

Massingham posted six goals and 10 assists during his 20-year old campaign in Cowichan Valley while wearing the 'C'. He played four full seasons for the Capitals, totaling 29 goals and 72 points in 236 games, and had not missed a regular season game since the 2006/07 season.

In February, the Duncan, B.C. product led the team with three goals in their first round series loss to eventual Coastal Conference champion Powell River.

“Joey was never the biggest, strongest or fastest player on our hockey team, but he was a blue-collared, hard-working player that was thoroughly appreciated by his coaches, teammates, opponents and fans,” says Capitals head coach Dale Purinton. “He will bring his lunch pail to Superior and nobody is going to outwork him.”

“On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Joey for his contributions to our program and congratulate him and his family on this announcement,” General Manager Robert Davison added.

Massingham joins defenceman Shayne Taker, who previously committed to Notre Dame, as Capitals who have secured college scholarships for the 2010/11 season.
