Duncan Keith and Kyle Turris to act as guest coaches for Top Prospects Game

Three-time Stanley Cup Champion and former Penticton Panthers defenceman Duncan Keith, along with Burnaby Express alumnus and 14-year NHLer Kyle Turris, will be guest coaches for the 2023 BCHL Top Prospects Game on Friday night in Penticton.

Keith will man the Team East bench alongside Penticton Vees head coach Fred Harbinson, while Turris will be on the Team West side along with Nanaimo Clippers bench boss Colin Birkas.

Keith played in the NHL for 17 years, 16 of which was spent with the Chicago Blackhawks where he won his three cups, in addition to a Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and two Norris Trophies as the league’s top defenceman. He also represented Canada internationally and won two Olympic gold medals. Keith, who hung up his skates just this past summer, played for Penticton for two seasons from 1999 to 2001.

Turris was a star for the Express from 2005 to 2007 before he was drafted third overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, the highest a player has been selected out of the league. He spent one year at the University of Wisconsin before turning pro with the Coyotes following his freshman year in 2008. He played four years in Phoenix before joining the Ottawa Senators for seven years. Turris, who will also participate in the BCHL’s Alumni & Friends outdoor game on Jan. 21, went on to play three years with the Nashville Predators before finishing his career with the Edmonton Oilers, where he was a teammate of Keith’s last season.

The BCHL Top Prospects Game is on Friday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton.
