Eagles forward Vanderlugt headed to UA-Huntsville

Surrey Eagles forward Jeff Vanderlugt will suit up with the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville for the coming season, the school announced on the weekend.

The Richmond Hill, Ont. native played one season for the Eagles after three successful seasons with the Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Vanderlugt used his 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame to notch 24 goals and 21 assists in 50 games with Surrey this season. He added six goals and three assists in 16 playoff games.

With the Chargers, Vanderlugt will join Victoria Grizzlies defenceman Graeme Strukoff who inked with the school in late March. BCHL grads Keenan Desmet, Justin Cseter and Mac Roy all return next season at UAH.
