Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Owen Fitzgerald, Capitals goaltender Rhett Stoesser and Salmon Arm Silverbacks forward Brady Logue have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Owen Fitzgerald (F) – Cowichan Valley Capitals
Fitzgerald finished the weekend with a league-best four goals, plus an assist, for five points in a pair of Cowichan victories.
In his first BCHL game on Friday, the Ennismore, Ont. product scored two goals and added an assist in the Capitals 8-0 road win over the Surrey Eagles. Fitzgerald notched his first of the game in the second period to put his team up 5-0, then helped pile on with a power-play assist and another even strength marker in the third.
The following night, he broke a scoreless deadlock midway through the second period and added an insurance marker into an empty net late in the third for his second straight two-goal effort in a 3-0 triumph over the Chilliwack Chiefs.
2nd Star – Rhett Stoesser (G) – Cowichan Valley Capitals
Through two BCHL starts, Stoesser has yet to allow a goal, stopping all 45 shots he faced and earning back-to-back shutout victories on the Capitals season-opening road trip.
On Friday, the 2005-born netminder made 21 saves to register his first shutout in the league in his first BCHL game, blanking the Surrey Eagles 8-0.
A night later against Chilliwack, Stoesser stopped 24 shots to help the Capitals finish off a perfect road trip in a 3-0 win against the Chilliwack Chiefs.
3rd Star – Brady Logue (F) – Salmon Arm Silverbacks
Logue tied for the league lead in points over the weekend with five in two games, finishing with three goals and two assists in two games.
The Philadelphia, Pa. native netted the Silverbacks first goal of the season on Friday night in their home opener against the Cranbrook Bucks with a power-play goal 9:08 into the game. He picked up an assist with the man advantage just 1:29 later before scoring the eventual game-winner late in overtime on a gorgeous end-to-end rush. He was named first star of the game.
On Saturday, Logue picked up a goal and an assist, including the tying goal late in the third to send the game to overtime, in an eventual 4-3 shootout loss to the Trail Smoke Eaters.
