Former BCHLers Rawlings, Collins take Hockey East awards

Chris Rawlings garnered more laurels this week as the Northeastern University Huskies netminder picked up the Goaltender of the Month award as announced by the Hockey East Association on Tuesday.

The North Delta, B.C. native was bestowed with the honor thanks to a sterling month of January, posting three shutouts with a 1.54 goals against average and .948 save percentage clip. His record of 4-1-2 was bolstered by four outings in which he registered 30 or more saves.

Rawlings posted his fourth shutout of the season and his third in four games in a 3-0 triumph over UMass Jan. 28. He became the first goaltender in Huskies history to shutout three teams in four games.

Rawlings is tied for second in the country with four shutouts, joined by another former BCHL goalie, Wisconsin’s Scott Gudmanson, and North Dakota’s Aaron Dell.

Vernon Vipers grad Mike Collins of the Merrimack College Warriors also picked up accolades for January as he was named Rookie of the Month. The Boston native scored 11 points in January, including his first career hat trick in a 7-1 win over Vermont Jan. 29.

He recored four multiple point games in the month and now has eight goals and eight assists this season for the 12th-ranked Warriors.
